Use the +/- keys in the top left of the map to zoom in. Left click and hold and drag on the map to move it around (or use the direction arrows in the top left of the map). Selecting satellite at the top right of the map will change the view from map view to photographic view. Hybrid gives both satellite and map views combined. You can zoom and navigate no matter what view you are using.
